Most DFW homeowners know their energy bills are too high. They don’t know why. A room stays hot no matter how low you set the thermostat. The AC runs all day. The electric bill climbs every summer and never comes back down.
Our Certified Performance Report (CPR) finds the source. It is a diagnostic home energy audit that uses calibrated equipment to measure exactly where your home loses conditioned air, how much it loses, and what to fix first.
Green Attics offers this audit at no cost to homeowners across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. No sales pitch, no obligation. You get a clear, visual breakdown of inefficiencies with prioritized recommendations based on real measurements from your home.
The CPR is a detailed, all-in-one service that takes 2 to 4 hours to complete. We evaluate insulation, ductwork, airflow, HVAC strain, and attic ventilation using advanced diagnostic tools. Here is what the process includes.
Blower Door Test
This test involves placing a blower door inside your home and forcing air outside. This door includes a very powerful fan that simulates 20 mph winds on all sides of your residence. The air pressure inside the home is measured against the air pressure outside the home and, by accounting for the volume of the house, we determine how many natural air changes occur per hour. This home energy audit test works very effectively at detecting energy loss. In addition, the equipment we use during this energy audit test is very eco-friendly.
The blower door result tells us how airtight your home is. That number guides how much air sealing your home needs before any insulation work begins.
FLIR Camera Test
Another test used to detect energy loss inside your home involves the use of a FLIR (forward-looking infrared) camera. These cameras help detect any air leakage inside your home. During this home energy audit test, one of our energy audit technicians will walk through your home with a FLIR camera, which helps to expose any penetrations coming in from outside the thermal boundary. These penetrations typically come from windows, recessed lights, doors, plumbing penetrations, exhaust fans, and any other locations where a leak might occur.
The infrared image creates a heat map of your walls, ceilings, and floors. This visual evidence makes it easy to see where attic insulation is thin, missing, or compressed, and where spray foam or a radiant barrier would make the biggest difference.
HVAC System Check
We analyze your heating and cooling system’s efficiency, including how hard your equipment works to maintain temperature. If your air conditioning system or heating system runs nonstop without reaching your set temperature, the CPR identifies whether the cause is the equipment itself, poor ductwork, or insufficient insulation.
Insulation and Ventilation Assessment
We inspect your attic for current insulation levels, coverage gaps, and ventilation. Poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture, which accelerates insulation breakdown. If your attic needs more coverage, better airflow, or a solar attic fan, the CPR will show it.
Lighting and Appliance Review
We review the energy consumption of your lighting and major appliances to identify additional areas where your home may be wasting electricity.
Energy Bill Analysis
We analyze your energy bills to reveal usage trends and seasonal patterns. This data, combined with the physical inspection findings, helps us build recommendations that target your biggest sources of waste.
After the inspection, you receive a comprehensive report detailing findings and action steps to improve your home’s energy efficiency. The report includes:
You select the upgrades that fit your comfort goals and budget. The report is yours to keep whether you hire Green Attics or not.
You don’t need to wait for a crisis. But if you notice any of the following, a CPR will confirm what’s going on and what to do about it:
Each of these symptoms points to a specific, measurable problem. The CPR pinpoints which one.
